Planning A Military Reunion Your Comrades Will Enjoy Attending
If you have served in the military, chances are you stay in touch with a few of the people who had served at the same time as you. If you are curious about what other people you had served with are doing now, consider hosting a military reunion to bring your group back together to reminisce about your days serving together. There are several aspects to consider to make a military reunion an event that will be enjoyed by everyone. Here are some points to consider when holding a military reunion.
Find Old Friends
Enlist the friends you have served with whom you still correspond with regularly to help you find other members who had served at the same time as you. This can be done via social media site, reunion groups online, military newsletters, and word of mouth. Try your hardest to find as many people possible so no one feels left out when the word gets out that a reunion is going to take place.
Book A Destination
After you have a rough idea as to how many members you may have coming to the event, decide on a centralized location to meet. Pick an area that has several activities to be enjoyed including golf courses, hiking trails, amusement parks, shopping, and fine dining. Having a diverse amount of choices for participants to do will help make the trip fun and memorable. Many participants may come with spouses, so make sure there are activities for both sexes to enjoy, as well as some children's activities for those who bring along their families.
When booking a hotel for a military reunion, be sure to let the receptionist know what the event is. Many hotels have discounted rates for larger groups, and additional discounts for former military members. Be sure to tell each participant to bring along their discharge papers as proof that they had served so they are able to enjoy the discounts.
Make Up A Schedule
To best enjoy the time at the reunion, having a flexible schedule will be appreciated by all who attend. The members will be able to decide which activities they wish to partake in and which they would rather sit out on, customizing the trip to their liking. Hold several activities throughout the event including some team sports, a picnic, a formal dinner/dance, recognition awards, a picture-taking session, and a larger event to be enjoyed together such as a musical concert or professional sporting event. Print out the schedule to be sent to each participant along with the hotel information. Have each person who decides to attend, send a notification so you will have a headcount for the hotel and the special events you have selected.
