Rescuing The Rehearsal – 4 Alternative Ideas To Liven Up Your Rehearsal Dinner

If you're in charge of planning a wedding rehearsal dinner, you may not realize how many great options you have these days. Rehearsal dinners may have once been staid affairs held at a local restaurant with minimal creativity, but they're boring no longer. Here are 4 fantastic ideas to have the best time at your rehearsal.

Plan a Picnic. If the weather is good, why not take everyone outside for a picnic under the sun? A picnic is a relaxing treat for out-of-town guests and allows you to invite families with little ones. Rent some tables and chairs from a party rental company like Ken Rent -- along with a few tents or outdoor heaters if the weather may be questionable -- and decorate with picnic baskets filled with light finger foods. Play some outdoor games like lawn bowling, croquet, or horseshoes to keep everyone in a good mood.

Play a Game. Another awesome outdoor rehearsal idea is an afternoon of playing your favorite game. Organize a game (or games) of baseball, football, basketball, soccer, or volleyball. Feed your guests game-day favorites like freshly-grilled hot dogs and hamburgers (or fancy variations on them) at the sidelines. Set out some blankets and pillows on the ground and rent a few outdoor chairs and sofas for guests to watch the game.

Have Some Drinks. If you want a lighter "rehearsal dinner" for a wedding party full of adults, switch the festivities to a local bar or pub. Look for a small establishment that you can rent either in whole or in part for your private party -- perhaps moving the dinner to midweek before the wedding if its easier or less expensive to book. You'll have minimum party prep to do since the venue is filled with ambiance and all the tables and chairs are already in place. If your chosen location doesn't serve food, consider arranging for a gourmet food truck to stop by during the evening.

Throw a Pool Party. Want to break the ice for everyone and reduce tension just before the wedding? Take a dip in the pool to enjoy a fun, casual evening. Set out plenty of rented chairs, tables, and umbrellas and complement with a fire pit or two for the evening hours. Serve light, summery refreshments like sangria or mimosas alongside finger sandwiches and plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Whether your rehearsal dinner budget is large or small, you can have a great time and relax the entire wedding party by thinking outside the box when it comes to planning your party.
