Using A Wedding Package? Dos And Don’ts For Upgrading Rentals
One advantage of using a ballroom or wedding-focused venue for your nuptials is that it will come equipped with many things couples need for their ceremony and/or reception. However, just because decor is included doesn't mean you have — or should have — more options. Here are a few key dos and don'ts for using included decor as well as outside rentals.
Do Learn What's Included. The first step in determining what you need to rent is to fully understand what is provided by your venue or in your package. The venue might provide its own round tables, for instance. But what size? The wrong size table could mean fewer guests fit in your space or that navigating the reception is harder. Ask to look at some items so you don't have any surprises about color, quality, or design.
Don't Skimp on Priorities. Decide what are your priorities as a couple. Have you always dreamed of elegant, formal table settings? Want larger centerpieces? Do your friends need a larger dance floor? It's okay to not settle for the standard venue package for every wedding element. Make a list detailing your upgrade priorities from the most important to the least important.
Do Keep Track of Rentals. When renting from multiple vendors, you must keep track of what needs to be returned to whom. Make sure both you and the venue agree on exactly what they've provided so there's no confusion when it's time to tear down the space. Have helpers who can assist in tracking where rentals came from. You might even create a small, removable tag to designate certain rental companies.
Don't Upgrade Everything. While you should definitely upgrade your priority items, don't upgrade everything. First, this negates much of the cost, time, and effort savings that is the advantage of using a traditional wedding venue. Second, it's a quick way to blow your wedding budget. Instead, focus on your must-have list and don't stress about the less important elements.
Do Crunch the Numbers. When you want to upgrade some features of the wedding package, the venue may offer additional services. They may be able to add on additional rentals or suggest that you upgrade your package for access to more upgrades. However, don't take these offers without researching the cost of outside rentals for specific things you need. You may find that the convenience they offer comes with a big price.
Where to Start
The best place to begin crafting your ideal wedding rental list is by learning more about the rental options in your area. Whether you've chosen a venue or not, knowing what's out there will help you set priorities, avoid overpaying, and design the day of your dreams.
